13—ACTS 3:19-26

JESUS CHRIST WAS PREACHED UNTO YOU
Acts 3:19-26

HEARING THE GOSPEL, WHETHER RECEIVED OR NOT
LEAVES ONE WITHOUT EXCUSE BEFORE GOD.
v19–TIMES OF REFRESHING – refers to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost

Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
1. And to the continued outpouring of the Holy Spirit throughout the Church Age –
(Joel 2:28-29 ASV) And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: {29} and also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my Spirit.
(Acts 2:17-18 ASV) And it shall be in the last days, saith God, I will pour forth of My Spirit upon all flesh: And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, And your young men shall see visions, And your old men shall dream dreams: {18} Yea and on My servants and on My handmaidens in those days Will I pour forth of My Spirit; and they shall prophesy.
2. And ultimately to the time of Christ’s return from heaven to put down evil and establish the Kingdom of God on earth and free it from all sin.

ULTIMATELY ALL THINGS PROPHESIED IN THE OLD TESTAMENT TO BE RESTORED WILL BE RESTORED – Zech 12—14;
(Luke 1:32-33 ASV) He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Most High: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: {33} and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
1. Christ will redeem or renovate all nature
(Rom 8:18-23 ASV) For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed to us-ward. {19} For the earnest expectation of the creation waiteth for the revealing of the sons of God. {20} For the creation was subjected to vanity, not of its own will, but by reason of him who subjected it, in hope {21} that the creation itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the liberty of the glory of the children of God. {22} For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. {23} And not only so, but ourselves also, who have the first-fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for our adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
2. And reign personally on the earth – Rev. 20—21.
3. Note that it is not the people on earth, but Christ and the armies from heaven
that will bring in the triumph of God and His kingdom – Rev 19:11 — 20:9.

V22 – A PROPHET – Moses prophecy in Deut. 18:18-19 – was concerning Jesus Christ.
(Deut. 18:18-19 ASV) I will raise them up a prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee; and I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. {19} And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

IN WHAT WAYS WERE JESUS AND MOSES SIMILAR?
1. Moses was anointed by the Spirit
(Num 11:17 ASV) And I will come down and talk with thee there: and I will take of the Spirit which is upon thee, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone.
a. the Spirit of the Lord was upon Jesus to preach the Gospel –
(Isa 61:1-2 ASV) The Spirit of the Lord Jehovah is upon me; because Jehovah hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; {2} to proclaim the year of Jehovah’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn.
(Luke 4:18-19 ASV) The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, Because he anointed me to preach good tidings to the poor: He hath sent me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovering of sight to the blind, To set at liberty them that are bruised, {19} To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.
2. God used Moses to initiate the Old Covenant.
a. Jesus brought in the New Covenant –
Jeremiah 31:31-33 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: (32) Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: (33) But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
3. Moses led Israel out of Egypt to Sinai and established the covenant relationship with God.
a. Christ redeemed His people from sin and Satanic bondage and established a new,
living relationship with God whereby His people might enter into the very presence of God. –
Gal. 3:13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us (because it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree") 14 in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham would come to the Gentiles, so that we could receive the promise of the Spirit by faith.
4. Moses in the Old Testament laws referred to the sacrifice of a lamb to bring redemption.
a. Christ Himself became the Lamb of God to purchase salvation for all who accept Him –
(John 1:29 ASV) On the morrow he seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold, the Lamb of God, that taketh away the sin of the world!
5. Moses faithfully pointed to the law and the obligation of God’s people to obey its statutes
in order to receive God’s blessings – Deut. 28:1-14.
6. Christ pointed to Himself and the Holy Spirit as God’s way of fulfilling His will and receiving God’s blessings and eternal life
Hebrews 8:4-8 For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law: (5) Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount. (6) But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. (7) For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. (8) For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, [Jer. 31:31-33, above], when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: (9) Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
