12—ACTS 3:1-11

IN THE NAME OF JESUS
Acts 3:1-11 [v6]; Acts 3:6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.

THIS PASSAGE DEMONSTRATED IMPORTANT
TRUTHS REGARDING BIBLICAL MIRACLES
1. Biblical miracles involve demonstrable, physical needs so that they are signs

Acts 2:43 NET. Reverential awe came over everyone, and many wonders and miraculous signs came about by the apostles.
Acts 2:43 KJV And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.
2. Biblical miracles involve a complete, perfect work
(Mark 8:22-26 ASV) And they come unto Bethsaida. And they bring to him a blind man, and beseech him to touch him. {23} And he took hold of the blind man by the hand, and brought him out of the village; and when he had spit on his eyes, and laid his hands upon him, he asked him, Seest thou aught? {24} And he looked up, and said, I see men; for I behold them as trees, walking. {25} Then again he laid his hands upon his eyes; and he looked steadfastly, and was restored, and saw all things clearly. {26} And he sent him away to his home, saying, Do not even enter into the village.
3. Biblical miracles involve genuine faith
a. there is nothing special about the lame man's faith – vvs.4-7.
Acts 3:4-7 And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. (5) And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. (6) Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. (7) And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.
b. nor about Peter's faith – v12.
Acts 3:12 And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk?
4. Rather faith is man's response to God's Word
(Mark 11:22-24 ASV) And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. {23} Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou taken up and cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that what he saith cometh to pass; he shall have it. {24} Therefore I say unto you, All things whatsoever ye pray and ask for, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
(John 14:12 ASV) Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto the Father.
(John 15:16 ASV) Ye did not choose me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that ye should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should abide: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
5. Faith is believing God concerning what He said
(3John 1:2 ASV) Beloved, I pray that in all things thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
6. Salvation is a supernatural work of God - yet is never described in Scripture as a sign or miracle.
7. This man was healed, because of Peter's response to what God's Spirit enabled him to do.

v6 - PETER STATED THAT HE HAD NO SILVER OR GOLD, BUT WOULD GIVE THE LAME MAN SOMETHING MORE VALUABLE
1. Churches that possess a fair-degree of material prosperity should think on the words of Peter.
2. Many churches today can no longer say…"Silver and gold have I none."
3. Nor do they seem capable of saying…"In the name of Jesus of Nazareth rise up and walk."

v6 - THE HEALING OF THE LAME BEGGAR WAS DONE
BY THE POWER OF GOD WORKING THROUGH HIS DISCIPLES

(Mark 16:17-18 ASV) And these signs shall accompany them that believe: in my name shall they cast out demons; they shall speak with new tongues; {18} they shall take up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall in no wise hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
(Matthew 10:1 ASV) And he called unto him his twelve disciples, and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of disease and all manner of sickness.
1. The church continued Jesus' healing ministry in obedience to His will
(John 14:12 ASV) Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto the Father.
2. The miracle was accomplished
a. through faith "in the name of Jesus" – v6.
Acts 3:6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.
b. and "the gift of healing" operating through Peter
(1Cor. 12:1 ASV) Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. (9) to another faith, in the same Spirit; and to another gifts of healings, in the one Spirit;
