THE RAPTURE AND SECOND COMING
or REVELATION OF JESUS CHRIST!

Acts 1:9-11; Isa. 2:2-4
(Acts 1:11 KJV) Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

AFTER FORTY DAYS OF INSTRUCTING HIS DISCIPLES, THE RISEN CHRIST ASCENDED UP ON HIGH AND IS SEATED AT THE RIGHT HAND OF THE FATHER
(Heb 10:12 ASV) but he, when he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;

  1. TWO MEN (Angels) brought the message of Christ's Second Coming to the apostles: "This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into Heaven, shall so come in like manner."
  2. The message of the Second Coming of Jesus is so important that it is mentioned over 300 times in the New Testament.
THE SECOND COMING OF JESUS CHRIST
IS NOT IN TWO STAGES AS SOME TEACH!
The RAPTURE & REVELATION
are not part of each other!

One has nothing to do with the other,
other than the fact that the Revelation is seven years after the Rapture!

THE TWO ADVENTS:
(1) The O.T. fore view of the coming Messiah is presented in two aspects that of rejection and suffering (e.g. in Isa 53);
and that of earthly glory and power (e.g. in Isa 11; Jer 23; Ezk 37).
  • Often these two aspects blend in one passage (Psa. 22).
  • The prophets themselves were perplexed by this seeming contradiction (1Pet 1:10-11).
  • It was solved by partial fulfillment.
  • In due time the Messiah, born of a virgin according to prophecy (Isa. 7:14),
  • Appeared among men and began His ministry by announcing the predicted kingdom as "at hand" (Mat 4:17).
  • The rejection of King and kingdom followed.
(2) The rejected King announced His approaching crucifixion, resurrection, departure, and return –
(Mat 12:38-40; 16:1-4,21,27; 24; 25; Luke 12:35-46; 17:20-36; 18:31-34; 19:12-27).
(3) He uttered predictions concerning the course of events between His departure and return
(Mat 13:1-50; 16:18; 24:4-26).
(4) This promised return of Christ is a prominent theme in Acts, the Epistles, and Revelation.

TAKEN TOGETHER THE N.T. TEACHINGS CONCERNING THE RETURN OF JESUS CHRIST MAY BE SUMMARIZED AS FOLLOWS:
(1) The return of Christ will be personal and corporeal: to the air before the Tribulation – usually called the Rapture –
from the Latin, Raptu, meaning to snatch away, unexpectedly and forcefully.  (1Thes 4:14-17; Phil 3:20-21; Rev 3:10);
(2) Then He will return to the earth after the Tribulation (Acts 1:11; Mat 23:39; 24:30; 25:31; Rev 19:11-16).
(3) His coming has a threefold relation: to the Church, to Israel, and to the nations:
  • (a) To the Church, the descent of the Lord into the air, to raise believers who have died and to change the living Christians, is a constant expectation and hope (1Cor 15:51-52; Phil 3:20; 1Thes 1:10; 4:13-17; 1Tim 6:14; Titus 2:13; Rev 22:20).
  • (b) To Israel, the return of the Lord to the earth is to accomplish the yet unfulfilled prophecies of Israel's national re-gathering, conversion, and establishment in peace and power under the Davidic Covenant (2Sam 7:16; cp. Acts 15:14-17 with Zech 14:1-9).
  • (c) To the Gentile nations, the return of Christ is to bring the destruction of the present political world system (Dan 2:34-35; Rev 19:11), and the judgment of Mat 25:31-46.
THE RAPTURE & RESURRECTION
CHRIST COMING IN THE AIR:

(1Cor 15:52) In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
1. RAPTURE - Christ is coming in the air to take His Church to be with Him for all eternity
(1Thes. 4:16-17 ASV) For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven, with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first; {17} then we that are alive, that are left, shall together with them be caught up in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
(John 14:1-6 ASV) Let not your heart be troubled: believe in God, believe also in me. {2} In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. {3} And if I go and prepare a place for you, I come again, and will receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. {4} And whither I go, ye know the way. {5} Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; how know we the way?{6}Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one cometh unto the Father, but by me.
(1Cor 15:51-58 ASV) Behold, I tell you a mystery: We all shall not sleep, but we shall all be changed, {52} in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. {53} For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. {54} But when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. {55} O death, where is thy victory? O death, where is thy sting? {56} The sting of death is sin; and the power of sin is the law: {57} but thanks be to God, who giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. {58} Wherefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not vain in the Lord.
2. RESURRECTION:
  • The resurrection of the dead was believed by the patriarchs (cp. Gen 22:5 with Heb 11:19; Job 19:25-27) and revealed through the prophets (Isa 26:19; Dan 12:2,13; Hos 13:14), and miracles of the dead restored to life are recorded in the O.T. (2Ki 4:32-35; 13:21).
  • Jesus Christ restored life to the dead (Mat 9:25; Luke 7:12-15; John 11:43-44), and predicted His own resurrection (John 10:18; Luke 24:1-8).
  • A resurrection of bodies followed the resurrection of Christ (Mat 27:52-53), and the apostles raised the dead (Acts 9:36-41; 20:9-10).
  • Two resurrections are yet future, which are inclusive of "all that are in the graves" (John 5:28).
  • These are distinguished as the "first resurrection," which is one "of life" (John 5:28-29; 1Cor 15:22-23; 1Thes 4:14-17; Rev 20:4-6),
  • and a second resurrection, which is one ‘of damnation,’ i.e. judgment (Jn 5:28 29; Rev 20:5-6,11-13).
  • They are separated by a period of 1000 years (Rev 20:5).
  • The "first resurrection," that unto life, will occur at the Rapture (1Cor 15:23), the believers of the Church Age meeting Him in the air (1Thes. 4:16-17), and the martyrs of the tribulation period being raised at the close of the tribulation, when Christ returns to earth to inaugurate the millennium.
  • Old Testament believers will likewise share in the first resurrection (1Th 4:16-17; 1Cor 15:51-53), prior to the tribulation.
  • Those slain for their testimony during the tribulation will rise and complete the first resurrection after the tribulation (Rev 20:4 6). (Isa 26:16-21; Dan 12:1-3)
  • The mortal body will be related to the resurrection body as grain sown is related to the harvest (1Cor 15:37-38); the resurrection body will be incorruptible, glorious, powerful, and spiritual (1Cor 15:42-44,49).
  • The bodies of living believers will, at the same time, be instantly changed (1Cor 15:50-53; Phil 3:20-21). This change of the living, and resurrection of the dead in Christ, is called the "redemption of our body" (Rom 8:23; cp. Eph 1:13-14).
THE REVELATION - Christ is coming to the earth to judge the nations – Mat 25:31-46;
(Rev 19:11-16 ASV) And I saw the heaven opened; and behold, a white horse, and he that sat thereon called Faithful and True; and in righteous he doth judge and make war. {12} And his eyes are a flame of fire, and upon his head are many diadems; and he hath a name written which no one knoweth but he himself. {13} And he is arrayed in a garment sprinkled with blood: and his name is called The Word of God. {14} And the armies which are in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and pure. {15} And out of his mouth proceedeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness of the wrath of God, the Almighty. {16} And he hath on his garment and on his thigh a name written, KINGS OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

THE REVELATION HAS THREE ASPECTS
1. Christ is coming to save Israel –
(Rom 11:25-26 ASV) For I would not, brethren, have you ignorant of this mystery, lest ye be wise in your own conceits, that a hardening in part hath befallen Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in; {26} and so all Israel shall be saved: even as it is written, There shall come out of Zion the Deliverer; He shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:
2. Christ is coming to sit upon the throne of David –
(Luke 1:31-33 ASV) And behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. {32} He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Most High: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: {33} and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
(Isa 9:6-7 ASV) For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. {7} Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of Jehovah of hosts will perform this.
3. Christ is coming to bring righteous government to this earth –
(Heb 1:8 ASV) but of the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever; And the sceptre of uprightness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.

JESUS CHRIST IS COMING BACK AGAIN
(Rev 22:20 ASV) He who testifieth these things saith, Yea: I come quickly. Amen: come, Lord Jesus.
  1. After the 1000 years the resurrection unto judgment (Dan 12:1-3; John 5:29) will occur.
  2. The resurrection body of the wicked dead is not described.
  3. They will be judged according to their works, and will be cast into the Lake of Fire Revelation 20:4-15
