8-FAITH

FAITH–ALIVE AND UNSHAKEABLE–FAITH THAT LIVES
(1Cor 13:13) And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

A. Faith is a living thing.

  • 1. The Word is alive – (Heb 4:12) For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
  • 2. The Word is life – (Pro 4:20-22) My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. {21} Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; {22} For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh.

B. Faith always comes by Hearing and Doing the Word
(Rom 10:17) So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

C. Faith is alive with the life of God.

D. Living faith vs. a dead mountain
(Mark 11:23) "For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be removed and be cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.

DEVELOP AN UNSHAKEABLE CONFIDENCE IN GOD.

A. This is the confidence we have in Him
(1Jn 5:14) Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

B. Our faith rests in the integrity of a Person
(Heb 6:11-12) And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, {12}that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

C. Live a life of praise between the time you pray and the time the manifestation comes…Praise is the highest form of prayer.

D. Worry is a manifestation of a lack of trust.

  • 1. No one can worry and trust at the same time.
  • 2. Trust and obey!

E. Touching Jesus with faith.

  • 1. Conceive the faith image.
  • 2. Establish a point of contact.
  • 3. Declare what you believe with your mouth.
  • 4. Act on the Word.

THE RIGHT TO BELIEVE ––
Rom. 8:17; Gal. 3:13-16, 19-29; Hebrews 11:1;
(Mat 21:21-22) So Jesus answered and said to them, "Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, 'Be removed and be cast into the sea,' it will be done. {22} "And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive."

WE CAN RELY ON GOD'S FAITHFULNESS.

A. God's faithfulness cannot be stopped by unbelief
(Rom 3:3) For what if some did not believe? Will their unbelief make the faithfulness of God without effect?

B. "Whosoever" is welcome to use the God kind of faith
(Mark 11:22-24 ASV) And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. {23} Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou taken up and cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that what he saith cometh to pass; he shall have it. {24} Therefore I say unto you, All things whatsoever ye pray and ask for, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

C. God's faith is His gift to us
(Eph 2:8) For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.

D. Jesus called this faith an ever increasing servant
(Luke 17:5-10) And the apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith." {6}So the Lord said, "If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,' and it would obey you. {7} "And which of you, having a servant plowing or tending sheep, will say to him when he has come in from the field, 'Come at once and sit down to eat'? {8} "But will he not rather say to him, 'Prepare something for my supper, and gird yourself and serve me till I have eaten and drunk, and afterward you will eat and drink'? {9} "Does he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I think not. {10} "So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, 'We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do.'"

E. The faith of Jesus to live victoriously over the flesh
(Gal 3:22) But the Scripture has confined all under sin that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.

F. The faith of Jesus to be the righteousness of God
(Php 3:9) and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith.

G. Jesus is the Author of our faith
(Heb 12:2) looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

H. It is holy faith
(Jude 20) But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.

I. Same faith Peter had
(2Pet 1:1) Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ.

OUR ATTITUDE MUST BE CHANGED
TO THINK…PRAYER—THE WORD—
FAITH IN THE WORD...FIRST.

THE BELIEVER HAS THE RIGHT TO BELIEVE.

A. WE ARE NOT ALIENS–WE HAVE CITIZENSHIP RIGHTS.

  • 1. The picture of our covenant – (2Sam 9);
    (1Sam 17:58) And Saul said to him, "Whose son are you, young man?" So David answered, "I am the son of your servant Jesse the Bethlehemite."

    (1Sam 18:1-4) Now when he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. {2} Saul took him that day, and would not let him go home to his father's house anymore. {3} Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul. {4} And Jonathan took off the robe that was on him and gave it to David, with his armor, even to his sword and his bow and his belt.
  • 2. David did not know Mephibosheth –
    (Eph. 2:4-13; John 15:7-16) (Eph 4:17-18) This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, {18} having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart;
    (Col 1:21) And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled.

B. OUR RIGHT TO EXPECT TO BE HEARD IS PART OF OUR COVENANT.
(Heb 4:14-16 ASV) Having then a great high priest, who hath passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. {15} For we have not a high priest that cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but one that hath been in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. {16} Let us therefore draw near with boldness unto the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and may find grace to help us in time of need.

(1Pet 3:2) when they observe your chaste conduct accompanied by fear.

  • 1. Our High Priest guarantees our being heard because of HESED–GRACE-AGAPE (the same as David and Mephibosheth).

C. WE HAVE THE NAME OF JESUS.

  • 1. The power of attorney – (John 16:23) "And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you.
  • (Ephesians 3:14-15) For this cause, I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named,
    (Phil 2:9-10) Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, {10}that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,
    (1John 3:22-23) And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. {23} And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment.

D. WE ARE THE SEED OF ABRAHAM
Rom. 4:16-25; Gal. 3:19-29; (Luke 13:10-17 ASV) And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath day. {11} And behold, a woman that had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years; and she was bowed together, and could in no wise lift herself up. {12} And when Jesus saw her, he called her, and said to her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity. {13} And he laid his hands upon her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. {14} And the ruler of the synagogue, being moved with indignation because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, answered and said to the multitude, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the day of the Sabbath. {15} But the Lord answered him, and said, Ye hypocrites, doth not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering? {16} And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan had bound, lo, these eighteen years, to have been loosed from this bond on the day of the Sabbath? {17} And as he said these things, all his adversaries were put to shame: and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.

(Gal 3:13-14) Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree"), {14}that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

E. WE ARE THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD.
(2Cor 5:21) For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
(Rom 3:21-22) But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, {22} even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference;
(Rom 5:17) For if by the one man's offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.)
(Eph 6:14) Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness.
(1Pet 3:12) For the eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their prayers; But the face of the LORD is against those who do evil."
(Isa 32:17) The work of righteousness will be peace, And the effect of righteousness, quietness and assurance forever.
(Isa 54:17) No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their righteousness is from Me," Says the LORD.
(James 5:16) Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
(Mat 6:33) "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
