7-FAITH

WHAT DID ABRAHAM FIND?
Romans 4:1 What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?

HE FOUND HOW TO RECEIVE FROM GOD ––
(Rom 4:3) For what does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness."
A. He used faith instead of trying to earn God's favor.

HE FOUND HOW TO STAND AND ACT ON GOD'S WORD.
(Rom 4:21) and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.
(Heb 11:17-19) By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, {18} of whom it was said, "In Isaac your seed shall be called,"{19} concluding that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead, from which he also received him in a figurative sense.
A. He received Isaac raised in a figure.
B. He staggered not at God's promise.
Jas 2:17-26 (22) But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. {23} For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; {24} for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. {25} But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

HE CONSIDERED NOT HIS OWN BODY ––
(Rom 4:19) And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah's womb.

HE LEARNED TO BELIEVE GOD AND SPEAK OF
THINGS THAT ARE NOT AS THOUGH THEY WERE
––
(Rom 4:16-17) Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all {17}(as it is written, "I have made you a father of many nations") in the presence of Him whom he believed; God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did;
(Eph 5:1) Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.

WILL WHAT ABRAHAM FOUND WORK FOR US TODAY?
(Rom 4:23-25) Now it was not written for his sake alone that it was imputed to him, {24}but also for us. It shall be imputed to us who believe in Him who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead, {25} who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification.
(Gal 3:7-9) Therefore know that only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham. {8} And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, "In you all the nations shall be blessed." {9}So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham.
" . . . to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham who is the father of us all" (Romans 4:16).

A. Abraham is not just the father of Israel; he is the father of ALL by faith ––
Gal 6:15-16 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. [16 And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.
(Isa 61:7-11 ASV) Instead of your shame ye shall have double; and instead of dishonor they shall rejoice in their portion: therefore in their land they shall possess double; everlasting joy shall be unto them. {8} For I, Jehovah, love justice, I hate robbery with iniquity; and I will give them their recompense in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them. {9} And their seed shall be known among the nations, and their offspring among the peoples; all that see them shall acknowledge them, that they are the seed which Jehovah hath blessed. {10} I will greatly rejoice in Jehovah, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with a garland, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels. {11} For as the earth bringeth forth its bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord Jehovah will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.
(James 2:23 ASV) and the scripture was fulfilled which saith, And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned unto him for righteousness; and he was called the friend of God.
1. Righteousness was counted unto him.
2. We have been made the righteousness of God and we are called sons and daughters of God ––
(2Cor 5:17 ASV) Wherefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature: the old things are passed away; behold, they are become new.
(2Cor 6:14-18 ASV) Be not unequally yoked with unbelievers: for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? or what communion hath light with darkness? {15} And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what portion hath a believer with an unbeliever? {16} And what agreement hath a temple of God with idols? for we are a temple of the living God; even as God said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. {17} Wherefore Come ye out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, And touch no unclean thing; And I will receive you, {18} And will be to you a Father, And ye shall be to me sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
