5-FAITH

DILIGENCE–THE WAY OF THE FAITHFUL
2Pet. 1:2-10 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, [3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: [4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. [5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; [6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; [7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. [8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. [9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. [10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
Pro 12:24 The hand of the diligent shall bear rule; but the slothful shall be put under task work. [27 The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting; But the precious substance of men is to the diligent.

A. Jesus did not check the tree even after Peter called His attention to it
(Mark 11:11-14 ASV) And he entered into Jerusalem, into the temple; and when he had looked round about upon all things, it being now eventide, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve. {12} And on the morrow, when they were come out from Bethany, he hungered. {13} And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find anything thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for it was not the season of figs. {14} And he answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit from thee henceforward for ever. And his disciples heard it. {20} Now in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.

B. Faith stands –– at all costs!

C. RUN TOWARD THE ENEMY –– as David ran toward Goliath.
1Sam 17:48 So it was, when the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, that David hastened and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.

D. Faith answers every symptom and every doubt NOW!!–Not later!!

E. As we realize how this is done and become diligent to do it, together we can accomplish anything.

THINGS NEVER ARE AS THEY APPEAR.

A. They saw and feared
1Sam 17:11 ASV And when Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.
1Sam 17:24 And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him, and were sore afraid.

B. Peter saw the water and feared
(Mat 14:30 ASV) But when he saw the wind, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, Lord, save me.

THE POWER OF FAITH IN THE WORD
––
Heb. 11:1-3 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. [2 For by it the elders obtained a good report. [3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

FAITH IS NOT THE PRODUCT OF REASON.
IT IS THE PRODUCT OF THE BORN AGAIN SPIRIT.

A. They reasoned and could not answer.
(Mark 11:27-33 ASV) And they come again to Jerusalem: and as he was walking in the temple, there come to him the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders; {28} and they said unto him, By what authority doest thou these things? or who gave thee this authority to do these things? {29} And Jesus said unto them, I will ask of you one question, and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. {30} The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men? answer me. {31} And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; He will say, Why then did ye not believe him? {32} But should we say, From men-- they feared the people: for all verily held John to be a prophet. {33} And they answered Jesus and say, We know not. And Jesus saith unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.

B. To reason with the Lord must be on His Word and in the Word
(Isa 1:18) "Come now, and let us reason together," Says the LORD, "Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool.
(Pro 3:5) Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;

FAITH IS THE SUBSTANCE
––
(Heb 11:1) Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

A. God used this substance to form the world
(Heb 11:3) By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things, which are seen, were not made of things, which are visible.

B. Faith-filled words (John 2:1-10).

C. Faith-filled words + Water=wine.

THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE GOD-LIKE FAITH.

A. Put the Word first; make it your final authority.

B. Meditate on the Word.

C. Act on the Word.

D. Pray in the Spirit

(1Cor 14:4) He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.
(Jude 1:20) But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.

NEVER BE GUILTY OF DISCOURAGING PEOPLE FROM USING THEIR FAITH!

A. As you hear yourself discourage them, you weaken your own faith.
