2-FAITH

FAITH-HOW IT WORKS
Hebrews 11:6; 2Corinthians 5:5-10
Hebrews 11:6  But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
2 Corinthians 5:5-10 Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.  (6) Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:  (7) (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)  (8) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.  (9) Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.  (10) For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

WHO HAS FAITH? THE BORN-AGAIN BELIEVER.

  • A. (Rom 10:6-17) (Rom 12:1-3) I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. {2} And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. {3}For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
  • B. (1John 5:1-5) Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. {2}By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. {3} For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. {4} For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. {5} Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
  • C. (Eph 2:8) For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
  • D. (2Th 3:2) And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith.

WHO CAN USE FAITH? WHOMSOEVER IS LOOKING TO JESUS.

  • A. Whosoever (Mk 11:23) For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
  • B. Anyone hearing preaching (Heb 4:2) For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
  • C. Any brethren; God is as free with faith as He is with love (Eph 6:16) Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. {23}Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • D. Not by our Holiness (Acts 3:12) And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk? (16) And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.
  • E. Hebrews 11:6 Without faith, it is impossible to please God.

WHAT IS FAITH?
Faith is not a force that has power of itself,
but ONLY IS A FORCE WHEN USED by
a BELIEVER to activate the Blessings of God ! ! !

  • A. Substance; spiritual (Heb 11:1-3) Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. {2} For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. {3} By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.
  • B. The law of faith (Rom 3:27) Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? No, but by the law of faith.
  • C. It is a Spiritual Law.
  • D. A law is something that works every time.

HOW FAITH IS RELEASED?

A. WORDS RELEASE POWER.

  • (2Cor 4:13-14) And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, "I believed and therefore I spoke," we also believe and therefore speak, {14}knowing that He who raised up the Lord Jesus will also raise us up with Jesus, and will present us with you.
  • (Mark 11:22-25 ) So Jesus answered and said to them, "Have faith in God. {23} "For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be removed and be cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. {24} "Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them. {25} "And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.
  • (Prov 4:24) Put away from you a deceitful mouth, And put perverse lips far from you.…(Prov 12:18) There is one who speaks like the piercings of a sword, But the tongue of the wise promotes health.…(Prov 13:2) A man shall eat well by the fruit of his mouth, But the soul of the unfaithful feeds on violence.
  • (Psa 89:34) My covenant I will not break, Nor alter the word that has gone out of My lips.
  • (Psa 141:3) Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips.
  • (Luke 6:45) "A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
  • (Luke 17:6) So the Lord said, "If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,' and it would obey you.
  • (Mat 12:36-37) "But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. {37} "For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."
  • (Rom 10:8) But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" (that is, the word of faith which we preach):
  • James 3:2-17 (Jas 1:26) If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one's religion is useless.

B. ACTION RELEASES POWER.

  • (James 1:22) But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
  • (John 3:21) "But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God."

HOW IS FAITH DEVELOPED?

  • A. Put the Word first place. Make it the final authority.
    • 1. Whatever the Word says I am…I am!
    • 2. Whatever the Word says I can do…I can do!
  • B. Meditate on the Word. This builds the capacity for faith.
  • C. Act on the Word. Action builds faith.
  • D. Decide to live by faith (Gal 3:11) But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for "the just shall live by faith."
  • E. Decide to live by the law of love (Gal 5:6) For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love.
  • F. Receive Jesus as the developer of your faith (Heb 12:2) looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
    • 1. Receive Him as the developer of your faith the same way you received Him as Savior.
    • 2. When faith begins to grow, Satan's dominion begins to lose strength.
    • 3. Circumstances begin to yield and no longer look so overpowering.
  • G. Expect Him to develop your faith anytime you put your faith on the line.

FAITH BRINGS SUBSTANCE TO THE BELIEVER’S DESIRES
(Luke 17:6-10) So the Lord said, "If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,' and it would obey you. {7}"And which of you, having a servant plowing or tending sheep, will say to him when he has come in from the field, 'Come at once and sit down to eat'? {8}"But will he not rather say to him, 'Prepare something for my supper, and gird yourself and serve me till I have eaten and drunk, and afterward you will eat and drink'? {9}"Does he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I think not. {10}"So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, 'We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do.'"

  • A. The disciples said, "Increase our faith."
  • B. Jesus answered, Use what you have; a servant is expected to do His work.
