THE GLORY OF GOD! Hebrews 3:1-19 Therefore, holy brothers, you who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession, 2 who was faithful to him who appointed him, just as Moses also was faithful in all God's house. 3 For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses--as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself. 4 (For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.) 5 Now Moses was faithful in all God's house as a servant, to testify to the things that were to be spoken later, 6 but Christ is faithful over God's house as a son. And we are his house if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope. 7 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, "Today, if you hear his voice, 8 do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness, 9 where your fathers put me to the test and saw my works for forty years. 10 Therefore I was provoked with that generation, and said, 'They always go astray in their heart; they have not known my ways.' 11 As I swore in my wrath, 'They shall not enter my rest.'" 12 Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. 13 But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called "today," that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end. 15 As it is said, "Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion." 16 For who were those who heard and yet rebelled? Was it not all those who left Egypt led by Moses? 17 And with whom was he provoked for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? 18 And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, but to those who were disobedient? 19 So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.

The comparison begins between Jesus and Moses in Hebrews 3 by pointing at Holiness in the brethren and asking them to consider Jesus as Apostle and High Priest.

A. The new as being worthy of more glory than the old.

B. Moses is faithful as a servant. Jesus is called faithful as a Son — (Heb 3:5-6) And Moses indeed was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which would be spoken afterward, {6} but Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.

1. It's very important to remember that Jesus became a servant, obedient to death, and then was raised again as a Son (Heb 1:5-6) For to which of the angels did He ever say: "You are My Son, Today I have begotten You"? And again: "I will be to Him a Father, And He shall be to Me a Son"? {6} But when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says: "Let all the angels of God worship Him."
2. We are in the house of the Son. Servants do not get to rest … sons do.

C. Jesus' next coming is not to deal with sin, but to completely deliver those that are eager enough for His coming to live sin–free lives — (Heb 9:27-28) And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, {28} so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.

D. Two of the key words around which the book of Hebrews revolves is consciousness and faithfulness.

WHAT IS THE GLORY OF GOD?2Cor. 3, 4; Rom. 3:21-25 But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it -- 22 the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins.

1. If Moses had looked on the glory of God he would have died.
2. Had the people looked at Moses' face they would have died.
3. Without the New Birth being available that would have been the end.
4. 2Cor. 3:17-18 says that is what happened to us; except after death we were brought to life – eternal life. 2Cor. 3:17-18 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
5. 2Cor. 4 goes on to say a physical manifestation of God's glory is a manifestation of His Holy Power, Character, Holiness and that it is resident in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. 6. 2Cor. 4:7 says that we possess this precious treasure, the LIGHT OF THE GOSPEL, in our bodies (the Spirit in our spirit, in our bodies).
7. We are born of this power. — 2Cor 4:7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.

1. Not a cloud
2. Not a bright light
3. Not a mist
4. Not the anointing.
5. Nor the Presence

WHAT IS THE GLORY OF GOD? Num. 14:17-22 And now, please let the power of the Lord be great as you have promised, saying, 18 'The LORD is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, forgiving iniquity and transgression, but he will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, to the third and the fourth generation.' 19 Please pardon the iniquity of this people, according to the greatness of your steadfast love, just as you have forgiven this people, from Egypt until now." 20 Then the LORD said, "I have pardoned, according to your word. 21 But truly, as I live, and as all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD, 22 none of the men who have seen my glory and my signs that I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and yet have put me to the test these ten times and have not obeyed my voice.

v22-Glory was to be on Israel.
Israel sinned—Lost the Glory
Earth now filled with the Glory of God.
ISAIAH 6:1-3 In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2 Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one called to another and said: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!"
v2–Seraphim worshipped with 2/3 of their wings and with 1/3 were hovering around His Holy Presence.
v3–Whole earth full of the glory - KABOD = heaviness.

ISAIAH 60:1-22; Isaiah 60:1-5 Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD has risen upon you. 2 For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the LORD will arise upon you, and his glory will be seen upon you. 3 And nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising. 4 Lift up your eyes all around, and see; they all gather together, they come to you; your sons shall come from afar, and your daughters shall be carried on the hip. 5 Then you shall see and be radiant; your heart shall thrill and exult, because the abundance of the sea shall be turned to you, the wealth of the nations shall come to you.
v1–Glory risen upon thee.
v2–His Glory seen upon you.
v3-5–Power, glory, riches, wealth, majesty comes with the glory.

Exodus 33:13-23 13 Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people. 14 And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest. 15 And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence. 16 For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth. 17 And the LORD said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name. 18 And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory. 19 And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy. 20 And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live. 21 And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock: 22 And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by: 23 And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen. (Exodus 33:1-23)
v14–Presence will go with you.
v18–Glory—veil & cloud are not the important part ... What is in the cloud and behind the veil are the important parts.
v23–Back parts - Omega of God

EXODUS 34:1-35; 5-9, 29-35; Exodus 34:29-35 When Moses came down from Mount Sinai, with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand as he came down from the mountain, Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with God. 30 Aaron and all the people of Israel saw Moses, and behold, the skin of his face shone, and they were afraid to come near him. 31 But Moses called to them, and Aaron and all the leaders of the congregation returned to him, and Moses talked with them. 32 Afterward all the people of Israel came near, and he commanded them all that the LORD had spoken with him in Mount Sinai. 33 And when Moses had finished speaking with them, he put a veil over his face. 34 Whenever Moses went in before the LORD to speak with him, he would remove the veil, until he came out. And when he came out and told the people of Israel what he was commanded, 35 the people of Israel would see the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses' face was shining. And Moses would put the veil over his face again, until he went in to speak with him.
v29-35-Moses had Glory – not cloud on his face.
This is the Character of God.
His Glory is His Holiness.
Rom. 3:23 all have come short of the Glory of God. WHY? because of sin.
Following the right Principal does not always feel right!
Following the right Principal does not always make a person well liked!

HEBREWS 1:1-3 – God, having of old time spoken unto the fathers in the prophets by divers portions and in divers manners, 2 hath at the end of these days spoken unto us in his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom also he made the worlds; 3 who being the effulgence of his glory, and the very image of his substance, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had made purification of sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.
Brightness, effulgence - Moses had this.
Effulgence means the outshining of God’s glory!
V3-With God's Character in us - we reflect His Glory.

As He is so are we in the earth-RIGHT NOW! 1John 4:17 By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world.
1. Through Him we uphold, sustain, and exercise dominion over all of Creation.
2. The church is the restrainer of evil—anti-Christ2Thes 2:7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. Only he who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way.
3. Hebrews 2:9-10 - We are brought to Glory by having the Character of God portrayed through out life, by the Blood of Christ.

The Law brought the Glory on Moses. — 2Cor. 3:9-18 For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory. 10 For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth. 11 For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious. 12 Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech: 13 And not as Moses, which put a veil over his face, that the children of Israel could not steadfastly look to the end of that which is abolished: 14 But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same veil untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which veil is done away in Christ. 15 But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the veil is upon their heart. 16 Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the veil shall be taken away. 17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
1. How much more of the Character of God – the Glory – should be in evidence under the New Covenant.
2. v18 – We go from Glory to Glory – ever increasing in Christ-likeness – God's Holy Character.

The whole earth shall be filled with My glory=Holy Character
A. The word "glory" in Hebrew kabod, (Greek doxa), means "heavy with everything good or splendor."
1. The Father of Glory (Eph 1:17) that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him,
2. The God of Glory (Acts 7:2) And he said, "Brethren and fathers, listen: The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Haran.
(Ps 29:3) The voice of the LORD is over the waters; The God of glory thunders; The LORD is over many waters.

B. Glory and honor are in God's Holiness {you cannot separate God's Character & Holiness} (1Chr 16:27) Honor and majesty are before Him; Strength and gladness are in His place.
1. Man was crowned with glory and honor, God's character.
a. When God's presence departed, Adam became naked.
b. WHAT DEPARTED? – The Holiness of Character!
c. Man fell short of the glory – (Rom 3:21-23) But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, {22} even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference; {23} for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
d. The plan or mystery is God's plan to return man to glory (the Character of God)(1Cor 2:6-8) However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. {7} But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, {8} which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
e. Satan did not know this or he would not have tried to kill the Lord of Glory.
f. God wants the mystery known now(Col 1:26-27) Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: 27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
g.  The Mystery Which Has Been Hidden From Ages And From Generations, But Now Has Been Revealed To His Saints.
h. 2Cor. 4 — Christ in us, our hope of glory. Col 1:27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
i. The knowledge of His glory is the knowledge of His Character of Holiness – the way it shone on Jesus' face(Mat 17:2) and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light.
j. They saw Jesus in His Glory, His Holiness as before He became man(Mark 9:2)Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John, and led them up on a high mountain apart by themselves; and He was transfigured before them.
John 17:1-5 When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, "Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, 2 since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. 3 And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. 4 I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed.
2. Jesus said to Lazarus' family…"You shall see the glory," or the Character of God.
3. In the Presence of His Holiness death had to vanish!
4. When God said, "Light be," He said, "Let there again be the manifestation of My Holiness in the earth."
a. This glorious gospel is full of His character, His Holiness
b. We look into the scriptures as a mirror for the glory–the revealed Character of the Father Almighty (2Cor 3:18) But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
c. It produces God Holy Character in us. It will take us from glory to glory–one level of His presence to another level of His presence.

A. His Holy Character has come upon us a line at a time or it would overcome us — (Isa 28:9-10) "Whom will he teach knowledge? And whom will he make to understand the message? Those just weaned from milk? Those just drawn from the breasts? {10} For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, Line upon line, line upon line, Here a little, there a little."
B. Eventually we will be glorified—transformed into the express character and image of His Holiness — WE WILL BE GONE FROM THIS EARTH!
C. Jesus had God's Holy Character flowing through His veins, giving life to His body.
D. Jesus washed the Church with the Word–making it a glorious Church. — (Eph 5:25-27) Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, {26} that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, {27}that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.
1. Filled with the Father's presence.
2. Overwhelmingly filled with life and goodness.
3. Ex. 33:18-19 shows that glory is goodness, God's Holy Character at work to bless man(Ex 33:18-19) And he said, "Please, show me Your glory." {19} Then He said, "I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion."
E. God's Holiness overwhelmed the tabernacle. Ex. 40:34 Then the cloud covered the tabernacle of meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.
F. His goodness overwhelmed armies.
G. Pharaoh’s army was overwhelmed by the Glory of God in the Red Sea.
H. His goodness endures forever — 2Pet 1:3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
Heb 13:8 ALT Jesus Christ [is] the same yesterday and today and into the ages [fig., forever]!
