5-VICTORY WALK—JOY OF THE LORD

THE JOY OF THE LORD
Nehemiah 8:10; John 15:1-11, 17:13; Psalm 30:5
Nehemiah 8:10 Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.
John 17:13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.
Psalms 30:5 For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

JOY IS OUR STRENGTH. —

  • Eph 3:14-21 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, {15} Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, {16} That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; {17}That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, {18} May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; {19} And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God. {20} Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, {21} Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
  • Col 1:6-11 Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth: {7} As ye also learned of Epaphras our dear fellow servant, who is for you a faithful minister of Christ; {8} Who also declared unto us your love in the Spirit. {9} For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; {10} That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; {11} Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;
  • Psa 105:42-43 For he remembered his holy promise, and Abraham his servant. {43} And he brought forth his people with joy, and his chosen with gladness:
  • Rom 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
  • Rom 15:13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

JOY HAS SPIRITUAL POWER.

  • Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
  • Phil 1:4 Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy.
  • Phil. 1:4 AMP In every prayer of mine I always make my entreaty and petition for you all with joy (delight).

GIVING INCREASES JOY.

  • 2Cor 9:6-10 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. {7} Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. {8} And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: {9} (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever. {10} Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;)
  • Phil 4:17 Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.
  • Heb 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
  • Heb. 12:2 AMP Looking away [from all that will distract] to Jesus, Who is the Leader and the Source of our faith [giving the first incentive for our belief] and is also its Finisher [bringing it to maturity and perfection]. He, for the joy [of obtaining the prize] that was set before Him, endured the cross, despising and ignoring the shame, and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God. [Ps. 110:1.]

WITH JOY, NOT WITH GRIEF.

  • Heb 13:17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.
  • Pro 15:13 A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.
  • Pro 15:13 AMP A glad heart makes a cheerful countenance, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is broken.
  • Pro 17:22 AMP A happy heart is good medicine and a cheerful mind works healing, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.
  • Pro 12:25 AMP Anxiety in a man's heart weighs it down, but an encouraging word makes it glad.
  • Isa 53:4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
  • 1Thes 4:13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

JOY COMES.
A. By revealing the Father —

  • Acts 8:6-8 And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. {7} For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed. {8} And there was great joy in that city.
  • Acts 8:6-8 AMP And great crowds of people with one accord listened to and heeded what was said by Philip, as they heard him and watched the miracles and wonders which he kept performing [from time to time].  7 For foul spirits came out of many who were possessed by them, screaming and shouting with a loud voice, and many who were suffering from palsy or were crippled were restored to health.  8 And there was great rejoicing in that city.

B. By the answer of the mouth (answer grief with the Word) —

  • Pro 15:23 A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!
  • Pro 15:23 AMP A man has joy in making an apt answer, and a word spoken at the right moment--how good it is!

C. Sacrifice of joy —

  • Psa 27:6 And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.
  • Psa. 27:6 AMP And now shall my head be lifted up above my enemies round about me; in His tent I will offer sacrifices and shouting of joy; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord.
