10-Prophecy—Day of the Lord—Part 4a

THE DAY OF THE Lord (Yahweh) Part 4a
Joel 1:15‑20; 2Sam. 22:7‑16; Isa. 2:10‑21; Jer. 25:29‑33; Mat. 24 & 25

At the end of the Tribulation, Christ will return to the earth with His angels and those believers who were previously Raptured. He will defeat the armies of the world and judge those men on the earth who are still alive. Christ routs the Antichrist and his forces, rendering them totally inactive. Then He will resurrect those who believed during the times of the OT as well as those who died during the Tribulation.

  1. Christ will return with believers and his angels — 2Thes 1:7-10; Jude 14-15; Rev 19:14.
  2. Christ will gather the tribulation saints — Mat 24:31; 25:31-40,46; Mark 13:27; Rev 20:4.
  3. Unbelievers will be unprepared for this event — Mat 24:38-39,43.
  4. Christ will separate peoples on earth—Mat 13:40-41,47-50; 25:31-46.
  5. Nations will be enraged at this event — Rev 11:18.
  6. Saints will rejoice at this event — Rev 19:1-8.
  7. Christ will judge and destroy the ungodly, including the antichrist and Satan — Is 13:6-12; Ezk 20:34-38; Mat 13:41-50; 24:30; 25:41-46; Luke 19:11-27; 1Thes 5:1-11; 2Thes 2:7-10,12; Rev 6:16-17; 11:18; 17:14; 18:1-24; 19:11-20:4.
  8. Tribulation saints will receive rewards — Mat 5:11-12; 1Cor 3:12-14; 9:25-27; Gal 6:9-10; 2Tim 4:8; Rev 20:4.
  9. Tribulation saints will share in Christ's glory and kingdom— Mat 25:31-40; Rom 8:29; 2Thes 2:13-14; Rev 20:4.

The Return of the Lord in Glory to establish
the Kingdom IN RIGHTEOUSNESS — Mat 24:29‑31.

  1. 2Thes 1 & 2 Christ comes to the earth with His church.
  2. The sudden smiting of Gentile world powers — v27‑28.
  3. The destruction of the beast, the false prophet and their armies — (Rev 19:11‑21) And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. {12} His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.  {13} And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. {14} And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. {15} And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. {16} And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. {17} And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; {18} That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great. {19} And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. {20} And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. {21} And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.
  4. Rev 19:11: Among the most magnificent descriptions in the Apocalypse is that of the conquering return of Christ to bring to an end the reign of the beast and to establish His kingdom upon earth. The crowns on His head are diademata (Gk.), or kingly crowns (v.12), in contrast to the stephanous (Gk.), or victors' crowns, of the elders (4:4).
  5. Rev 19:17: (vv. 17-21) This return of Christ at the close of the Great Tribulation culminates in a call to the birds and beasts of carrion to gather themselves for a feast at the supper of the great God. The beast and the false prophet attempt to join the conflict only to discover themselves banished and cast alive into the Lake of Fire, which is synonymous with gehenna (Gk.) or "hell" (cp. Mat 11:23). Those remaining of the forces of the Beast are killed and the fowls fed thereby.
  6. all but 1/6 of the armies of the earth destroyed — Mat 24:27‑28; (Ezk 39:2) And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts, and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel: — (Isa 11:4) But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.
  7. blood flowing to horses bridles for approximately 200 miles —

  1. (Rev 14:14‑20) And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle. {15} And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe. {16} And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth; and the earth was reaped. (Reaping the Grapes of Wrath) {17} And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle. {18} And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe. {19} And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God. {20} And the winepress was trodden without the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs.
  2. Rev 14:20: During the bloody holocaust of Armageddon, the blood of the slain and wounded flows in such profusion that the horses are wading through the crimson of life even to their bridles. A furlong (stadion, Gk.) is one‑eighth of a mile, which means the length of the carnage extends approximately 200 miles.
    1. the dead carcasses reserved for scavenger birds and beasts to eat —— Rev 19:17-18.
    2. the beast and the false prophet are consigned alive to the Lake of Fire —— Rev 19:20.
    3. Satan, fallen angels, demons consigned to the pit for 1,000 years.

  1. (Isa 13:6‑13) Howl ye; for the day of the LORD is at and; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty. {7} Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man's heart shall melt: {8} And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames. {9} Behold, he day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and He shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it. {10} For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine. {11} And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible. {12} I will make man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir. {13} Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger.
  2. Isa 13:6: "The day of the Lord" is a phrase often repeated by the prophets, pointing to the judgment of God at the end of the age, followed by blessing.

The Judgment of individual Gentiles according to their treatment of the Jews — Mat 25:31,46.

  1. Matthew 25:31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
  2. Matthew 25:46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
