15-The Persuaded Heart—Part 1

THE PERSUADED HEART-Part 1
Rom 4:16-22; 1John 3:18-22; Heb 10:15-25

IF OUR HEART CONDEMNS US NOT, THEN WE HAVE FAITH (BOLDNESS) BEFORE GOD.

  1. (Acts 4:13) Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus. (29) And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, (31) And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. — (Eph 3:12) In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him. — (1Thes 2:2) But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God with much contention.
  2. Great boldness in the faith — (1Tim 3:13) For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

ACTING ON HIS WORD—KEEPING THE COMMANDS OF GOD —
(Jas 1:19-22) Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: {20} For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. {21} Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. {22} But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

A.  Loving God purges the heart from fear —
(1John 4:15-18) Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. {16} And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. {17} Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. {18} There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
B.  Loving God is keeping His commands —
(John 14:20-24) At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. {21} He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. {22} Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? {23} Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. {24} He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me. — (1John 5:3) For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
C. Keeping His commands is loving one another —
(John 14:23) Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
D.  God takes His place as our Father as we love the family.

FAITH WILL FLOW THROUGH THE WORD-ESTABLISHED HEART.
Psa. 112; (Mark 11:22-25) And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. {23} For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. {24} Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. {25} And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. — (1John 5:18) We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one touched him not. — (Rom 14:4) Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.  (10)  But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. {11} For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. {12} So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God. {13} Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumbling block or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.

ACTION.

  1. Acting on the Word gives God opportunity — (Psa 119:98) Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me.
  2. Acting on the Word lets Jesus act through and for us.
  3. Believing the Word demands action.
  4. Committing to love makes us trustworthy — (1Thes 2:4) But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.
  5. Acting on the commandment first brings all other actions of faith to success.
  6. To claim the promises without acting on God’s commandments will bring little or no results.
  7. Your heart will condemn you and produce no faith.

ACTING ON THE COMMANDMENT DEVELOPS THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT.

  1. Faith works by love — (Gal 5:6) For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.
  2. The law of faith — (Rom 3:27) Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.
  3. If you love, you will be at peace, you will be longsuffering, etc.
  4. Acting builds the Word into us.

ACTING ON THE COMMANDMENT PUTS YOU IN A POSITION WHERE YOU ARE ABLE TO DEVELOP YOUR SKILLS IN THE WORD OF RIGHTEOUSNESS.

  1. It leaves no other course but to seek first the kingdom and His righteousness.
  2. or skills in the Word of righteousness in receiving from God — (Rom 12:10-21) Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; [11] Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; [12] Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; [13] Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality. [14] Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not. [15] Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. [16] Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. [17] Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. [18] If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. [19] Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. [20] Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. [21] Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

FOLLOWING JESUS.

  1. (Eph 5:1) Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; — (John 8:12) Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
  2. (John 1:3-4) All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. [4] In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 1John 1:7, 2:6-12; Eph 2:4-5.

WE MUST DEVELOP THE ABILITIES OF GOD IMPARTED IN US IN ZOE—ABUNDANT LIFE.

  1. (John 14:26) But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. — (Col 1:12) Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: — (Col 2:3) In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. — (1Pet 2:9) But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
  2. The creation will yield its secrets to love.
  3. It was created by love, for love, for us to enjoy.
  4. (Eph 3:15-20) Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, {16} That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; {17} That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, {18} May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; {19} And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God. {20} Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,— (1Tim 6:17) Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
  5. Faith, rooted and grounded in love, opens our understanding––working in us––building His Word in us.
  6. The fruit on the branches.
