THE MINISTRY OF INTERCESSION! Part 2
John 17:6-19
John 17:6-19 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word. (7) Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee. (8) For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me. (9) I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. (10) And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them. (11) And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are. (12) While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled. (13) And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves. (14) I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. (15) I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. (16) They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. (17) Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. (18) As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. (19) And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.

INTERCESSION IS NOT JUST GETTING GOD TO DO SOMETHING … IT IS COMBATTING PRINCIPALITIES, POWERS, and RULERS OF DARKNESS and WICKED SPIRITS IN BEHALF OF OTHERS. 1Peter 5:1-9

AN INTERCESSOR MUST NOT CARRY THE LOAD OF THE PROBLEM.
We are subject to one another —
(1Pet 5:1-9) The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: {2} Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; {3} Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. {4} And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away. {5} Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. {6} Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: {7} Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. {8} Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: {9} Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
Resisting the devil in one another's behalf —
(Eph 6:18) Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
We must, through prayer, claim and take for God in Jesus' Name what is rightfully His.
He paid for all mankind with His blood.

PULLING DOWN STRONGHOLDS THROUGH INTERCESSORY PRAYER —

  • (Isa 59:16-21) And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him. {17} For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and an helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloak. {18} According to their deeds, accordingly he will repay, fury to his adversaries, recompense to his enemies; to the islands he will repay recompense. {19} So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him. {20} And the Redeemer shall come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith the LORD. {21} As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the LORD; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed's seed, saith the LORD, from henceforth and for ever.
  • (Ezk 22:30) And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.
  • (1Cor 10:13) There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
  • (2Cor 10:3) For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: {Ezekiel 28}

INTERCESSORY PRAYER IS APPLYING THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT — (Rom 8:26) Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

There is too much work in witnessing, counseling, committees, etc., without prayer preceding them. It's because of prayer that the power of God will overpower the forces that have that person bound and prepare them to receive. —
1Tim 2:1-2 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;  (2) For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

STRONGHOLDS OF DARKNESS ARE BROUGHT DOWN BY REVELATION OF JESUS.

  1. His Name.
  2. His Word.
  3. His Spirit — (Jas 1:2-8) My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; {3} Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. {4} But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. {5} If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. {6} But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. {7} For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. {8} A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
  4. The armor.
  5. His authority.

THE INTERCESSOR MUST RELY ON THE HOLY SPIRIT —
(Rom 8:26) Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. —
(Php 2:13) For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

START PRAYING THE INTERCESSORY PRAYER FOR A GIVEN BODY OF PEOPLE (family village, town, city, county, state, nation); THEN GO THERE AND HOLD FORTH THE WORD OF LIFE —
(Mark 1:35) And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed. —
(Mark 1:38) And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth.

1. YOU HAVE CONTACTED THE FATHER IN THEIR BEHALF; NOW GO CONTACT THEM IN JESUS' BEHALF!

2. IT ALL STARTED IN JERUSALEM IN THE PRAYER CLOSET AND SPREAD FROM THERE TO THE WORLD — (Acts 1:8) But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. — (Rom 8:26-27) Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. {27} And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

3. MY SPIRIT WILL REACH OTHER HUMAN SPIRITS THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT —
(1Cor 5:3-4) For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed, {4} In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,

4. When I pray the prayer of intercession, the Father will prepare them as the Holy Spirit prepares me — (Rom. 8:26-27 above).

5. Then go and reap the harvest, and the Lord will give the increase.

6. Our prayers bring the very presence of God to and upon men in any part of the world. Then we must go there and help in the harvest.

7. The Holy Spirit prepares us; and through our intercessory prayer, the Father IS preparing them.

8. Then when we come together, we give them the Word of life and Jesus will show Himself alive (heal their sick, raise their dead, etc.) and they will act on the Word and will be born again.

9. No wonder Jesus keeps saying, "By my Spirit."

10. As we speak the Word in Jesus' name and minister His Name, we become the voice of the very One Who has been preparing them.

11. We become the voice of the Authority that will set them free —
(2Cor 6:1) We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.

12. This is truly laboring with the Lord!

Romans 8:26 SAYS TO TURN TO THE HOLY SPIRIT FOR HELP. HE WILL HELP US INTERCEDE EFFECTIVELY. — Rom 8:26  Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

FASTING IN CONNECTION WITH INTERCESSORY PRAYER — (Isa 58:11-12) And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not. {12} And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.

UNITED INTERCESSORY PRAYER —
(Acts 4:24) And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:—{the result—a great move of God}
(Acts 5:12-16) And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch. {13} And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them. {14} And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.) {15} Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them. {16} There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

GOD'S PROTECTION IS AROUND THOSE PRAYING THE INTERCESSORY PRAYER —
(Ezk 9:4-6) And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof. {5} And to the others he said in mine hearing, Go ye after him through the city, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity: {6} Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house. —
(Rom 8:28) And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
