16—ACTS 5:12-16

Acts 5:12-16
Acts 5:12-16 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch.  (13) And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them.  (14) And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)  (15) Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.  (16) There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

1. First miracle –- man at the gate called Beautiful
(Acts 3:1-11 ASV) Now Peter and John were going up into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour. {2} And a certain man that was lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the door of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; {3} who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked to receive an alms. {4} And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him, with John, said, Look on us. {5} And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something from them. {6} But Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but what I have, that give I thee. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk. {7} And he took him by the right hand, and raised him up: and immediately his feet and his ankle-bones received strength. {8} And leaping up, he stood, and began to walk; and he entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God. {9} And all the people saw him walking and praising God: {10} and they took knowledge of him, that it was he that sat for alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him. {11} And as he held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon's, greatly wondering.

2. Ananias and Sapphira –
Acts 5:1-11 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,  (2) And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet.  (3) But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?  (4) Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.  (5) And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.  (6) And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.  (7) And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.  (8) And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much.  (9) Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.  (10) Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.  (11) And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.

3. People put beside the street on pallets and cots so that when Peter came by His shadow might fall on any one of them – Acts 5:15 above.

4. All the people from the cities in the vicinity of Jerusalem where people who were sick or afflicted with unclean spirits and they were all healed – Acts 5:16 above.

5. Prisons were opened –
Acts 5:17-20 Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation,  (18) And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison.  (19) But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,  (20) Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

6. Philip - unclean spirits cast out - paralyzed and lame were healed
(Acts 8:5-8 ASV) And Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and proclaimed unto them the Christ. {6} And the multitudes gave heed with one accord unto the things that were spoken by Philip, when they heard, and saw the signs which he did. {7} For from many of those that had unclean spirits, they came out, crying with a loud voice: and many that were palsied, and that were lame, were healed. {8} And there was much joy in that city.

7. Spirit Baptism imparted by laying on of hands
(Acts 8:14-17) Now when the apostles that were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: {15} who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit: {16} for as yet it was fallen upon none of them: only they had been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. {17} Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

8. The Holy Spirit snatched Philip away
(Acts 8:39-40 ASV) And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip; and the eunuch saw him no more, for he went on his way rejoicing. {40} But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached the gospel to all the cities, till he came to Caesarea.
    a. Philip found himself in Azotus -- v40.
    b. as he passed through he continued preaching the Gospel.
    c. Philip did not question what happened.
    d. the Holy Spirit was in control and performed these miracles.

9. This miracle that happened to Philip was also a demonstration of the Rapture power of the Holy Spirit
(Rom 8:11-13 ASV) But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwelleth in you, he that raised up Christ Jesus from the dead shall give life also to your mortal bodies through his Spirit that dwelleth in you. {12} So then, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh: {13} for if ye live after the flesh, ye must die; but if by the Spirit ye put to death the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

10. The apostles were amazed; yet believed these miracles were normal for a Spirit-filled body of believers.

11. We need to get back to the book of Acts – the Acts of the Holy Ghost.
