15—ACTS 4:29-33

THEY WERE ALL FILLED WITH THE HOLY GHOST & THEY SPOKE THE WORD WITH BOLDNESS
Acts 4:31; Acts 4:29-33 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, (30) By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus. (31) And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. (32) And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. (33) And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.

THERE ARE FOUR DISTINCT ACTIONS DESCRIBED IN THIS VERSE.
1. Peter and John prayed.
2. The Holy Spirit shook the place where they were.
3. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit.
4. They spoke the Word of God with boldness.

PETER AND JOHN PRAYED.
1. The key to any successful operation for God is much prayer.
2. Prayer is communication with God.
3. There is no other source of Help for the believer.
4. Jesus encouraged prayer on numerous occasions

(John 15:16 ASV) Ye did not choose me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that ye should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should abide: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

THE HOLY SPIRIT SHOOK THE PLACE WHERE THEY WERE.
1. God will move heaven and earth for His children.
2. On the day of Pentecost the Holy Spirit came as a rushing mighty wind and as cloven tongues.
3. When Peter was in prison - the angel of the Lord appeared
Acts 12:5-12 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him. (6) And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison. (7) And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands. (8) And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me. (9) And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision. (10) When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him. (11) And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews. (12) And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying.

THEY WERE ALL FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT.
1. On the day of Pentecost they were all filled with the Holy Spirit.
2. Saul filled with the Holy Spirit
(Acts 9:17 ASV) And Ananias departed, and entered into the house; and laying his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, who appeared unto thee in the way which thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mayest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit.
3. Cornelius and his house were baptized in the Holy Spirit
(Acts 10:44 ASV) While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all them that heard the word.

THEY SPOKE THE WORD OF GOD WITH BOLDNESS.
1. Paul spoke boldly to the Corinthians
(2Cor 7:4 ASV) Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my glorying on your behalf: I am filled with comfort, I overflow with joy in all our affliction.
2. Paul proclaimed the Word with all boldness
(Phil 1:19-20 ASV) For I know that this shall turn out to my salvation, through your supplication and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, {20} according to my earnest expectation and hope, that in nothing shall I be put to shame, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether by life, or by death.
3. With boldness we can approach the Judgment Day
(1John 4:17 ASV) Herein is love made perfect with us, that we may have boldness in the Day of Judgment; because as he is, even so are we in this world.
4. We can come boldly or with confidence to the throne of Grace
(Heb 4:16 ASV) Let us therefore draw near with boldness unto the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and may find grace to help us in time of need.
5. We can boldly say[Heb 13:6] "The Lord is my Helper. I will not fear. What can man do to me?"

BEING FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT
(Eph 5:18 ASV) And be not drunken with wine, wherein is riot, but be filled with the Spirit.
(2Tim 1:7) For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
1. We have the inner power of the Holy Spirit.
2. The reality of God's Presence brought about by the filling of the Spirit.
3. The Spirit frees the Believer from fear of others, demons and all evil spirits.
4. The Filling by the Holy Spirit greatly increases our courage to witness for God and the Lord Jesus
(Acts 1:8 ASV) But ye shall receive power, when the Holy Spirit is come upon you: and ye shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea and Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Acts 1:8 AMP But you shall receive power (ability, efficiency, and might) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and to the ends (the very bounds) of the earth.

Acts 4:31 SEVERAL IMPORTANT TRUTHS STAND OUT IN THIS SCRIPTURE:
1. The term baptized with, in or by the Holy Spirit relates the consecrating work
of the Holy Spirit in initiating the believer into divine power for witnessing.
(Acts 1:5 ASV) For John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days hence.
2. The terms, filled, clothed, empowered, describes His actual equipping of them for ministry
(Acts 2:4 ASV) And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
(Acts 4:8 ASV) Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders,
(Acts 9:17 ASV) And Ananias departed, and entered into the house; and laying his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, who appeared unto thee in the way which thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mayest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit.
(Acts 13:9 ASV) But Saul, who is also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, fastened his eyes on him, (52) And the disciples were filled with joy with the Holy Spirit.
3. Being filled with the Holy Spirit is an ongoing process
(Eph 5:18 ASV) And be not drunken with wine, wherein is riot, but be filled with the Spirit.

THE TERMS:
1. Pouring out the Spirit
(Acts 2:17-18 ASV) And it shall be in the last days, saith God, I will pour forth of My Spirit upon all flesh: And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, And your young men shall see visions, And your old men shall dream dreams: {18} Yea and on My servants and on My handmaidens in those days Will I pour forth of My Spirit; and they shall prophesy.
(Acts 10:45 ASV) And they of the circumcision that believed were amazed, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Spirit.
2. Receiving the Gift of the Holy Spirit
(Acts 2:38 ASV) And Peter said unto them, Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of your sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
(Acts 8:15 ASV) who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit.
3. Coming of the Spirit on
(Acts 8:16 ASV) for as yet it was fallen upon none of them: only they had been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.
(Acts 10:44 ASV) While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all them that heard the word.
(Acts 11:15 ASV) And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, even as on us at the beginning.
4. These are different expressions for when believers are FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT
(Acts 2:4 ASV) And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
(Acts 4:31 ASV) And when they had prayed, the place was shaken wherein they were gathered together; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

ALL BELIEVERS INCLUDING THE APOSTLES WHO HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN FILLED ––
Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
1. Are freshly filled to meet the continuing opposition of the Jews
(Acts 4:29 ASV) And now, Lord, look upon their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants to speak thy word with all boldness.
2. Fresh fillings are part of Gods will.
3. Fresh fillings are part of Gods provision for all who have received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit
(Acts 4:8) Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders. (Acts 13:52 ASV) And the disciples were filled with joy with the Holy Spirit.
4. We should expect and seek those fillings with the Holy Spirit.

THE HOLY SPIRIT VISITS AN ENTIRE CONGREGATION.
TO FULFILL GODS WILL FOR THE CHURCH –– Acts 4:31
1. Individuals must be filled with the Spirit

(Acts 13:52 ASV) And the disciples were filled with joy with the Holy Spirit.
3. Each believer should experience repeated visitations of the Holy Spirit

(Gal 5:16 ASV) But I say, walk by the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
